I don’t know but they manage to come up with the power to do whatever they want.
Where does the federal government get the authority to make drugs illegal?
I ask because of the 18th amendment.
If they needed the 18th amendment to outlaw alcohol, wouldn’t they need an amendment to outlaw other recreational drugs?
And if the 18th amendment wasn’t necessary to outlaw alcohol (meaning they had the power to outlaw it without the amendment), then what was the point of it?

They have the authority because it have the support of the people, it is like the gay right marriage law, it doesn’t have anything to do with the amendment but people still vote against it anyhow.

First they got the authority by taking it. You are correct to ask this question. Funny thing is that marijuanna, for instance, isn’t illegal, it is perfectly legal as long as you obtain a “tax” stamp for it, the catch is that there are no tax stamps printed for it.
Cute trick right? The government actually the U.S. used to encourage the growth of hemp for the war effort, but then Dow Chem, DuPont, Monsanto and a few other corporations got patents for things like oil, synthetic fibers, and other products which could be controlled by them so they pulled in Hearst Publications to write up pieces to demonize the plant as the down fall of America, sold it and that was that.
Like most every law in this country, seat belt laws were written by insurance companies so they could jack rates, the drug laws come down to makin’ mo’ money for corporations.

The power comes from the sheep that sit around and say “what can ya do, it’s the law” and let the judges and courts walk all over their rights because they’re too chicken to confront the system.
Government is in place to protect and serve, yet today we see it trying to control and limit us. This is because of our mentality and our lack of people like William Wallace, people who shout out and say “DO NOT TREAD ON ME”
I share the same concern not for the recreational use of drugs but because of the spiritual use I have for drugs/Entheogens.
Many of the entheogens are becoming illegal, this is directly treading on my right to have freedom of religion. The constitution is being defiled with these laws and no one steps up to defend it, no one steps up to defend their rights any more.
When you do that, you spoil the government and let them control you.
I Say stand up, tell them it is time for a revolution and that government should have less power in personal matters such as religion/spirituality and what you do behind closed doors if you’re not hurting others.
Stand up against the machine, who wants to live without freedom anyways?

The Federal Government IS the authority. So that is where they get it.
Drugs are handled differently (and through differing agencies) than alcohol. Since alcohol is a drug and is widely and readily available, your question might well be why certain drugs aren’t treated the same way. That would be a good question.
