Do you want to change your habit of smoking weed? Changing a habit that you do on a daily basis can be difficult for most people and if you need to quit marijuana there is no difference.

When you decide to quit smoking marijuana, there are a few things you may want to consider ahead of time, so that your are ready for them and not thrown off guard when they come up.

The things you will need to know are:

Your Goal (realistic expectation of quitting) Withdrawal symptoms you will go through, When you might have a relapse Why you want to quit marijuana

Your Goal When you decide its time to quit, it is important to remember that quitting isn’t easy. Make sure you have realistic expectations of quitting marijuana. It may not be easy but it’s not impossible. This year, over one million people quit smoking weed successfully. Make your plan as realistic as possible and understand what symptoms you will encounter and have to deal with.

Withdrawal Symptoms Every person that quits marijuana will need to go through withdrawals. There are a number of withdrawal symptoms that might be difficult to handle, although they will not last long. In fact, using marijuana detox will make it happen much quicker!.

After 6-8 weeks you will have momentum, and reach the point where you decide to never smoke another marijuana joint again. (or maybe only on very rare occasions).

Relapse Knowing to expect withdrawal symptoms is one thing, but knowing about common times you might relapse is even more important.

Most people relapse shortly after the decision is made to quit marijuana. The first two weeks after quitting marijuana is the time where most relapses occur.

This is when withdrawal symptoms begin to build up and become the strongest, and the body is still dependent on the weed. For most people, this will be the hardest time of all. It is at this point that you must use all your personal resources, friends, family, and willpower just to get by successfully. Along with this, relapses also occur later on in the process.

Why YOU want to quit marijuana Keep your eyes on the goal at all times. Are you quitting for your health? Is it to help your career? Is it to save money? Are you sick of marijuana destroying your life?

Whatever your reason, make sure you keep focused on it. Pretty often people forget how important quitting was to them when you first decided to leave marijuana behind. Keep your eyes on the prize!

Many people who decided they want to quit marijuana have no idea where to begin. This article discusses some simple steps you can take to begin the journey of quitting marijuana. Take the first step and set a quit date, then write it down!

Set a Date to Stop Smoking Weed.

The purpose of setting a quit date, is to allow yourself to get mentally and physically prepared to quit smoking marijuana. Your quit date should be an actual date. It should not be when your stash runs out, or roughly a week before the next semester of school starts, or next month. It is important to nail down the date. In my personal experience, before I learned to set a date that I would stop, I used to smoke my stash as quickly as possible. I did this because I convinced myself that each bag was my last bag. When my bag ran out, I would buy another one, and smoke it just as quickly, convincing myself that it was also the last bag. Does this sound familiar? I recommend setting your quit date, within one month of the current date. If you wait any longer, you are less likely to follow through with your goal. It is a great idea to set your quit date just before a vacation begins, or other major event. Quitting Marijuana is a lifestyle change. If you attach it to another lifestyle change, you are more likely to be successful.

Understand your Addiction.

Marijuana addiction is a controversial topic because people fail to differentiate between a physical addiction and a psychological addiction. While marijuana has physical withdrawal symptoms similar to that of cigarettes, it is the psychological aspect of the addiction but most users struggle with. Long-term marijuana smokers are in the habit of smoking pot every day and are used to being in a stoned mindset. While you do not have a physical need for marijuana, you do have a mental need to get high. that’s the tricky thing about it. It’s not that you’re addicted to marijuana, it’s that your mentally addicted to being high. the more we smoke, the more our brains get used to being high, and the more we crave that state of mind. he will go through a mental battle when you stop smoking weed. You need to prepare for battle.

Get Rid of Your Gear

Marijuana smokers have lots of great gadgets. You may want to give all of your supplies to friends, or you may wish to throw them away or break them as a symbol of your resolve to stop smoking weed. Whatever you do, clean your environment so that there is no trace of marijuana or of marijuana related equipment. Cravings are easier to resist when there is nothing immediately in front of you. People will do some strange things to get stoned, including smoking pipe resin, checking the cushions for weed crumbs and roaches, or even digging through the trash to find the last scraps they threw away. I will admit, I have done all of these things in the past.

Be prepared for withdrawal.

Not being prepared for marijuana withdrawal is the number one reason that people fail to quit smoking. If you’ve got a quit date set, you’re already ahead of the game, because you know when you will be going through withdrawal, and you’ll be prepared. Anxiety is very common in the first stages of withdrawal. For example, you have probably been through a time when you just run out of pot and have made plans to get more but it didn’t work out. You are on edge and jittery until you can secure a new supply, or at least get stoned. Multiply this by 10 times, you will have an idea of what the anxiety can be like if you are unprepared to quit for good. Insomnia and loss of appetite are also common in the first week of quitting. Do your research on what withdrawal will be like so that you can be mentally prepared to face these problems when they arise after you quit smoking weed.

When we talk about habit-forming, marijuana is really no different to alcohol, tobacco and many of the mind-altering substances out there. Something you might not be aware of, is that there are actually physical reasons why this is so, marijuana withdrawal symptoms.

When you quit weed, you are most likely going to experience cannabis withdrawals. Not everyone that quits weed will experience these symptoms, but if you have smoked often and for a long time, then it’s something you should certainly expect.

What Are Marijuana Withdrawal Symptoms?

When marijuana is smoked or ingested regularly for long periods, the user builds up a tolerance for the drug and will need more and more of the substance to produce the same desired effect of being stoned.

Soon, the body becomes dependent to the drug, and when it is no longer received the user will begin to experience withdrawal symptoms that can be quite overwhelming in nature.

Marijuana Withdrawal Symptoms are the physical reactions your body will experience due to a lack of marijuana. Many people will loudly report that marijuana has no physical addiction; you may also be thinking this. It’s simply not true, although marijuana is mostly a psychological addiction; there are indeed physical withdrawals that come along with the drug.

After years of marijuana abuse your body has adapted to the intake of toxins. Not necessarily THC (Tetrahydrocannabinol – the active agent that makes you high) but many of the other 420 chemicals found within marijuana.

Just as you have adapted to accept these chemicals over time, your body now needs to adapt to the lack of chemicals. This is not a bad thing; rather, your body is going through a marijuana detoxification, which is vital if you would like to experience the benefits that come along with quitting cannabis, such as more energy and a clearer mind.

What Are The Worst Marijuana Withdrawal Symptoms?

There are many different types of cannabis withdrawals, and the symptoms often differ from user to user. The three most common symptoms that we see users go through when they quit cannabis are listed below.

Anxiety. This can be in the form of a panic attack, however, it is more commonly a subtle restlessness. Although this symptom is generally mild, it’s still a concern as it’s a constant feeling. Generally, the feeling is that of ’something missing.’

Metabolism. Or lack of appetite! Without marijuana your metabolism is going to decelerate within the first week. This is often compared to the ‘opposite of the munchies.’ The fluctuation of your metabolism can also result in stomach pains.

Insomnia. Sleep is completely different without marijuana and you will need to adapt. This doesn’t take too long, but expect massive difficulty sleeping within the first week. It is important to keep a normal sleeping pattern when going through cannabis withdrawal symptoms.

Toxins of marijuana generally reside in your body from 10 to 90 days. All symptoms of marijuana withdrawal symptoms are temporary by definition and should not last longer than this time. Expect most symptoms you are going through to pass by more quickly and should be finished within a matter of weeks.

As health officials continue to bark out ridiculous claims about marijuana, one must begin to wonder; “Marijuana can be up to five times more potent than the cannabis of the 1970s, according to the National Institute on Drug Abuse. “  If you take a minute to interview any cannabis user of the 70’s you can clearly get a strait answer, the marijuana purchased in the 70’s included stems, leaves, and other parts of the plant not smoked.  When you look at the potency per pound, obviously the 1970’s marijuana is going to look less potent compared to the marijuana purchased today, which is well trimmed, virtually stemless, seedless, and leafless.They tend to say, cannabis users are not as successful as non users, but how many top sport stars, musical stars, writers, movie stars admit to using marijuana, A LOT! Marijuana is a one of a kind plant that can be used for so much more than just inspiration.

As our financial officials continue to walk into work with there head up there ass, marijuana supporters have stamped out a new, more efficient way of helping out this country.  Instead of fighting taxes, like almost every American around, cannabis supporters welcome a tax along with legalization. Already in California, medical marijuana alone raises 18 million a year. Many political advisors in California have responded to be very grateful for the extra cash in budget. If completely legalized, the state’s top tax collector estimates that taxing marijuana like liquor could bring in more than $1.3 billion annually. Instead of dealing with a shady, unknown weed dealer, cannabis clubs prop up local economies, mints millionaires and feeds a thriving industry of startups — stores that sell high-tech marijuana-growing equipment, pot clubs that pay rent and hire workers, chains of for-profit clinics that specialize in medical-marijuana recommendations. Still, marijuana money from outdoor and indoor plots inevitably flows into local coffers. Marijuana increases residents’ retail buying power by about $58 million countywide, according to a Mendocino County report.

Assemblyman Tom Ammiano, D-San Francisco, wants the state to tax and regulate all pot as it does alcohol. State Board of Equalization Chairwoman Betty Yee, a supporter, projects the law would generate $990 million annually through a $50-per-ounce fee for retailers and $392 million in sales taxes. (The state now collects $18 million each year in taxes on medical marijuana.) Large-scale agri-businesses in California’s Central Valley would dominate legal marijuana production as they already do bulk wine grapes, advocates argue. Pot prices would fall dramatically, forcing growers to abandon costly clandestine operations that authorities say trash the land and steal scarce water.  Gangs and violent criminals that thrive off marijuana black market sales would fall apart leaving a low cost relaxant, wanted by billions of US Citizens.

How to Quit Smoking Marijuana – the Reason Behind the Need

How to quit smoking marijuana is not an easy question to answer with a list of pointers and handy hints (though I have written enough of those as well) because the reasons people become addicted to marijuana is a mixed bag of problems in their life that creates a need to escape, zone out or even be more social if they have a group of friends that smoke. In the end smoking weed is about getting high to get away from something and when we become addicted to that high and you feel you NEED it then I becomes easy to blame the drug itself not the REASON you started smoking pot in the first place.

This article I named ‘the reason behind the need’ because I just wanted to focus on just one aspect of marijuana addiction which is the immediate reason you feel the urge and need to smoke. Many people call these cravings for pot much like a cigarette smoker craves lighting up but the difference is that nicotine creates a very strong physical craving that is also fueled by a psychological need born of a reason that you may or may not know or understand. To find, understand and explore this reason is a powerful first start in coming to terms with why you find it hard to stop smoking weed and can lay the foundation of a strong motivational drive to quit marijuana for good.

The reasons to smoke as I mentioned can be many and varied:

Abuse
Depression
Violence
Stress
Boredom
Lack of direction in life
and more …

Some reasons may be worse than others but they all do the same thing; send you looking for an escape. This escape inevitably becomes a habit and a coping mechanism for these reasons behind your need to smoke pot and often that need or urge you may get is TRIGGERED by a flare up of one of these problems.

This may not be a surprise to many who know these problems in intimate detail and know they smoke pot to get away from some harsh part of their reality but the frequent problem that occurs in this instance is they blame the weed for making matters even worse (which it often can) and think that they need to quit smoking weed and this will solve their problems too!

In the end knowing these problems, reasons and triggers for your need and urges to use pot will not tell you how to quit smoking marijuana but they can help you understand and plan ahead. If you know what will drive you back to smoking pot you can be prepared for it and if you can somehow overcome or alleviate those reasons you will also overcome or alleviate your addiction to marijuana.

Advice on How to Quit Marijuana: Avoiding Roadblocks – Part One

How to quit marijuana can seem to some people to be a very simple question and to others an incredibly complex one. Some may think this difference of opinion simply comes from peoples varying levels of commitment to their attempts to stop smoking pot and this is somewhat correct but the circumstances people are in have some of the greatest effects on people chances of kicking their weed addiction and many of the problems I like to call roadblocks.

A roadblock is something we think we cannot pass, an insurmountable obstacle set before us that stops our attempts to move forward and appear to a marijuana user trying to quit to be a point they cannot go past so they simply turn around and head back on down the same path because that roadblock is not going anywhere. Some examples I have seen include:

Becoming extremely stressed when ceasing to smoke weed

These roadblocks I like to think fall into two categories and need different approaches.

Speed humps
A speed hump does not stop you going forward they simply slow you down, they are rough and sometimes fro a distance they look like you can’t get over them until you get closer and attempt it and realize they are not so bad! The only way to determine this is to look at the situation up close and work out can you just push on through it and it was fear of failure holding you back from giving up smoking weed not any real danger.

Barriers
A real barrier is something that you cannot get past, or if you do try you end up wrecking yourself or something else (or someone else). Often sever issues of mental health or extreme social issues can become real problems when you are trying to work out how to quit marijuana and it looks like the end. Obviously you cannot just power on here but there are other things you can do. Following the roads analogy I might be laboring a little bit we might see our path to quitting marijuana as a straight line with speed humps and sometimes a barrier ending our journey, but what if there was another path? What if we could go around that barrier or remove that barrier in a different way that just trying to drive on over it? The real secret to avoiding roadblocks is to not tackle them head on if you are going to lose but instead try to find a different path, think of new ways and approaches to the problem or sometimes realize that this roadblock might have to be removed by getting our of the metaphorical car and solving this issue first.

Advice on How to Quit Marijuana: Avoiding Roadblocks – Part Two

In part one we discussed how problems in our life can present what may seem like barriers that we cannot overcome and force many people to turn around and give up on their attempt to quit smoking pot. This advice on how to quit marijuana will continue on with some common and not so common examples of how former pot smokers have handled these situations.

Social obstacles
Many marijuana addicts are social smokers as well as on their own and many have a culture that is based around smoking pot and all their friends do and often their families too. Recently I heard of a girl who was stressed out because all of her close friends smoked pot but she really wanted to stop and felt that if she revealed this to her friends there would be social consequences. This may have been understandable but the stress and anxiety over losing her friends nearly broke her resolve until she was advised to look at the issue a little closer and found that the problem in her mind had become a lot bigger than it really was. By simply talking to her friends about how she felt it was best for her without judging her friends she found that most actually supported her and some decided to join her in her efforts! This was a classic example of a speed hump where the obstacle only seemed impassable and became smaller only when she had the courage to go over it.

Family Obstacle
Sometimes a social problem is not as easy to overcome however as another common problem is when your family all smoke and you cannot move out, and even worse they do NOT support your efforts to quit. A lack of freedom and space can make if very hard and if you can not change those around you and receive no support the stress can be very high and drive you back to smoking as it can be too hard not too. This is more a of a road block as you are caught between a rock and a hard place and it feels like there is no solution. In these times you have to be a little more creative and find a new way, the individual in question here fond a way forward by realizing that the roadblock that was his living conditions and addicted family was the only reason he kept smoking, not only this but a fairly abusive relationship with his father was sapping his will and all this stress and anxiety simply meant it was easier to smoke and fall into line even though he knew it was destroying his chances at a better life. The solution … to move out despite the horrendous difficulties this posed. It was a new path, a rocky path but it was this or return to the same problem. I head from this guy a few months later and now that he had quit smoking he had moved into a clean share house and while money was tight the benefits of being free was worth the hardship. This may not be possible for everyone but it shows how a rougher path can sometimes be the only way forward if you identify the crucial base problems for your continuing dependence on smoking weed.

Masking Problems
Another reason some people continue to smoke weed is that it is a way to mask another problem such as depression, anxiety or even rage and psychosis. Some feel that the effects of marijuana help them cope with these conditions but know that they need to quit, and then fall back to smoking because they feel they cannot handle whatever other problems they have. With this in mind the roadblock is the other condition they suffer from that stops them moving forward but the problem most face is that they think this other problem is unsolvable and often use it as an excuse to continue smoking because masking their problems is easier than fixing them. The answer? Treating the underlying problem of course! If this means going to therapy or buying medication designed to specifically deal with brain chemical imbalances then so be it but only by removing this roadblock will you ever move forward.

In the end all of these problems are about analysis, honesty and a motivation to do things other than just stopping smoking which is sometimes the easiest bit. By finding a path you can follow these stressful difficulties can be avoided and overcome making the road to find out how to quit marijuana that much easier, better and lasting too!

Using Meditation to Quit Marijuana – Does it Work?

Marijuana addiction is becoming more and more common as availability and ease of access to this “soft” drug increases. Many people cling to the high they get from pot and continually smoke to keep that high going as often as they can meanwhile they sink further and further into addiction until it does not become an enjoyable experience but an absolute need. Unlike cigarettes and other drugs however marijuana addiction is not a physical or chemical addiction but a psychological one which is where using meditation to quit marijuana can help people overcome this problem.

Pot, weed, cannabis, hash or whatever your name for it, marijuana can take a hold of ones life much like an alcohol or gambling addiction in that there is no cravings for chemicals like nicotine in cigarettes but there is a craving for the high you get from the action. Gamblers are addicted to the high of winning so much they will risk everything they have to get that high once more and the same goes for any psychological addiction. It is a dependence on that high they experienced the first times but it becomes dangerous when it gets out of hand leading to problems with health, money and social aspects of their lives.

This means there are no patches or chewing gum that can help you overcome cravings for marijuana; the cravings are simply a want so bad it feels like a need. This means everyone has a different way of coping with psychological addictions to make themselves realize they do not need to smoke pot and can have the willpower to quit. Meditation is one way that people have used to quit successfully because of its calming and introspective effects.

The benefits of meditation are twofold. Firstly it gives you another activity to take the place of smoking pot which enables you to spend your time on something healthier for you and replaces that time block in your life you once filled with an addiction. Secondly while meditating you can free your mind and body from the daily pains and bothers of life and can separate yourself from your anxieties cutting off that psychological craving that may be bugging you. Some find after meditation it does come back but repeated meditation eventually alleviates such things. People also find a certain “high” from meditation that is natural and healthy that they can use as a substitute for pot as well which is beneficial to all parts of their life.

Some claim that meditation is just a replacement addiction or action and does not solve the root cause of why someone became addicted to marijuana in the first place. Many take up such an addiction to get away from some pain in their lives and feel pot gives them an escape. I also believe this is true but you cannot solve these problems while you have an addiction but having the will to look at your life and find what it is that has driven you to such measures is very important and using meditation can be much easier. From a lack of direction in ones life to physical assault at home to high stress jobs psychological drug addition has many causes that need to be addressed.

So it is my firm belief that using meditation to quit marijuana does work and can only be a good thing for those that try and may lead you to a better state of being in a spiritual sense and a more stable life in a very realistic sense.
