it would take the attention off of people who do drugs and focus attention to the real criminals.
How would it be good for the world if drugs were legalised?

In my opinion, drugs such as crystal methamphetamine, phencyclidine, lysergic acid diethylamide, and ethanol should be illegal because they do more harm than good. Sure enough, they can give someone an intense high and feeling of happiness, (and ethanol’s case, drunkenness) but they have serious side effects. LSD and PCP can cause brain damage, thus having substantial potential to put users in a mental institution. There have been many instances where people have jumped from building and killed themselves because of those drugs. As for ethanol, drunk driving is one of the more major causes of death. Although it would be difficult to stop, if there was no legal alcohol, the number of deaths would have dropped because drinking wouldn’t be as common, and the drunks that do however get behind the wheel would do so in a relatively small number. I say marijuana should be legal.
Well, smoking ganja is bad for the lungs. Trust me, it doesn’t matter if the weed is better than cigarettes in terms of health because smoke in the lungs is ALWAYS bad. However, I don’t smoke anything, but I recommend eating the ganja instead because it’s effects still work and weed actually cures more than causing damage like Aspirin, crack, coke, meth, PCP, etc. It’s only side-effects are the munchies, which makes you mouth-watering hungry, but that’s not even always the case I heard, and tiredness, which in my opinion, is great. Not only does it cure headaches, insomnia, cramps, and relieve stress, it can also make a great potential leukemia and glaucoma treatment. It’s legal in Denver, but you can only have a certain amount. Therefore, I recommend eating it.
Also, DO NOT believe ANYONE when they say weed kills brain cells. In fact, taken from the last link, “none of the medical tests currently used to detect brain damage in humans have found harm from marijuana, even from long term high-dose use. An early study reported brain damage in rhesus monkeys after six months exposure to high concentrations of marijuana smoke.” See, they said monkeys from SMOKE, which chances are, don’t even effect humans, but still.

Well, the main reason drugs should be legalized (legal as in controlled, like prescription drugs are, not just walk into a gas station and buy an ounce of crack legal) is so that it can be controlled and distributed through the FDA (food and drug administration). That way, the government has better control of the distribution of the substances and takes it out of the hands of drug dealers, gangs, and overseas drug cartels. It would also decrease the rate of crimes, because drugs would become cheaper (they’re expensive due to supply and demand… if it was legalized the supply could be controlled and increased, thus lowering the price), and if drugs are cheaper, less people will be robbed, less homes would be vandalized, people wouldn’t be shot and killed in drug deals gone bad.
If drugs were legalized, the government could then make a HUGE profit by taxing them, just like how about 50% of the price of cigarettes is taxes… the money can go towards improving school systems, social service programs, repairing highways, etc. And considering our country is in the middle of a recession, the taxes from drug money would have helped immensely. And just like the tobacco money uses a portion of the profits from selling cigarettes to spread awareness of cancer, emphysema, and other health problems caused by smoking, drug companies could use a portion of their profits to explain that drugs are not just addicting, but can cause serious health issues. Right now, drug dealers are taking all of the profit from drugs (also, they don’t pay taxes on the money they earn from dealing drugs either), so the government is losing billions of dollars every year because because they refuse to legalize and distribute the drugs, so money would be a huge driving force towards the legalization of drugs.
A HUGE reason why drugs should be legalized is for jobs. Our country could create MILLIONS of new jobs, which would instantly get our country out of the recession if they legalized drugs. Farmers and farm-hands would be needed to grow and harvest marijuana, truck drivers for moving and distributing products, manufacturing facilities and factory workers would be needed to sort and package the products, and pharmacists would be needed to distribute the products.
Legalizing drugs would also save the government money because most of the “criminals” in jail are there due to posession of drugs. If drugs were legal, it would free up jail space and save the U.S. taxpayers a lot of money (because our tax dollars are paying to keep these people in jail for minor infractions).

i think the revenue from taxes alone would be the biggest pro of legalizing drugs. personally, i think hard drugs should remain illegal. marijuana and mushrooms however, should be as legal as walking into a convenience store and instead of buying a pack of smokes, buying a pack of joints and a bag of shroomies. perfectly safe, no overdose. just makes sense, too bad most of the people who can work on the laws(senate, congress, president and his vice prez) they are all ignorant and stuck in the 50’s. it is ridiculous that the jails are full of people who smoked or sold a little green and got screwed over for using or selling something it is impossible to od on and something that just makes you hungry and relaxed. why don’t we go after the breweries in the country and the distilleries. i have had a few people close to me get their life really messed up by alcohol. maybe we could put everyone who sells and distributes alcohol in the slammer for purveying something PROVEN TO BE DANGEROUS AND BAD FOR YOUR HEALTH!
